M, D and O worked together for quite a number of days – building a wonderful structure under and in our beautiful large cedar tree. Lots of discussion took place; ideas and suggestions were shared in this ongoing project. The children had fun planning and helping each other create and discover.
M: “How’s this, O?” handing O a flat board. O responds “It looks like it’s going to fall off. Pretend you are my downstairs neighbour”
D climbs in underneath. “It’s safe under here.”
As some of the boards wiggle and fall, O shouts “wo wo, M, quick! Oh well too late. He slides down a bit as some of the boards slip. He brushes himself off and continues with the project.
D says “I don’t see any cracks in the fort.” O responds “I see one. M, maybe you should fix that a little bit. Why do you do it that way?”
M: “That’s how I fix it. M holds the board in place while O makes his way down. O is now under the fort. D helps M put another board on. O: “It’s loud down here.”
O points to a large wooden box. “That’s my computer,” he says. “OK” says D. You have to come out and I will put it in.” O says “the other way.” “OK” replies D. “Now it’s my T.V.” says O.
D asks the others “How do I get up here?” M answers ” Let me show you. I put my foot here…” D tries and then exclaims “I’m stuck!” He tries again and climbs up, saying “”I got out!”
The children continue to play for a bit longer, then O asks” Do you want to go bike riding?” They run down to the bike area.
